iPod Touch for Seniors

Hey all you seniors, make those sit-around-waiting times productive times. Get an iPod Touch and start downloading video podcasts. Six months ago, I didn't know what a video podcast was. Now I think they are great. Watch them whe you want to watch them. Or load that iPod with dozens of pictures of the grandkids. Flipping through the pictures easy, cool and very hi-tech. Better yet, rent some cheap movies now from I-Tunes. Watch my video right here.

Employers can cut benefits for older retirees

Those eligible for Medicare may lose coverage under new rules. AARP calls the policy "a fiasco."
By Mark Drajem Bloomberg News

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has ruled that employers can cut benefits for retirees who turn 65 and become eligible for Medicare without violating age-discrimination laws.
The commission, which enforces workplace-fairness laws, said in a regulation that took effect Wednesday that companies and unions can offer greater benefits to those who are too young to qualify for Medicare or state-sponsored health insurance.
"By this action, the EEOC seeks to preserve and protect employer-provided retiree health benefits which are increasingly less available and less generous," commission chairwoman Naomi Earp said in a statement.
A two-tiered system will help forestall across-the-board reductions, the EEOC said.
"This policy is a civil rights and economic fiasco," AARP said in an e-mailed statement Thursday. "It is a wrong-headed move to legalize discrimination, allowing employers to back off their health-care commitments based on nothing more than age" and "merely passes the buck to those who can little afford it".

Restaurant Review

Cherry Crest Seafood Market and Restaurant.
Miles from either coast, you'll find fresh seafood prepared in many delicious dishes.

This restaurant, located at 5909 South University Boulevard in Centennial, Colorado, was reviewed this week by the staff at stillcoolseniors.com and everyone was impressed with the quality of the food and the diversity of the menu.

The heated, enclosed patio provided a warm setting with a definite intimate ambience. The service and food was excellent and warranted the 5 sunglasses rating: the coolest. To see a video review of the meal, click on the link below and go to Good Seafood in Colorado.

Film Reviews

Film Reviews: Reel Geezers

Get your latest film reviews from a pair of very experienced reviewers. These octogenarian insiders are Marcia & Lorenzo. Lorenzo Semple, 84, was a Hollywood screenwriter in the 1970's. And Marcia is Marcia Nasatir, 81, longtime agent, production executive and producer of "The Big Chill" and "Hamburger Hill."

These two sit down and have a frank, free-spirited discussion of the latest movies. The discussion is filmed using two video cameras. Then Heather Finnegan, a young documentary filmmaker edits it down to about a five-minute YouTube clip.

To find their reviews, go to YouTube and type in "Reel Geezers" in the small search box. You will find a very entertaining and seasoned insight into these films.

The Oceanaire, Denver, Colorado
Restaurant Review, February 23, 2008

Last night the still cool seniors staff reviewed The Oceanaire Restaurant in downtown Denver. It was the first night of Denver Restaurant Week so downtown was jumping and The Oceanaire was booked solid.

The restaurant occupies a terrific location close to the Performing Arts Center, the Convention Center and the new Four Seasons Hotel underconstruction across the street. There is limited street parking but valet service is available and numerous parking garages closeby.

The restaurant has a terrific design, I'd call Art Deco/1950's Cruise Ship, Oceanliner. The food was excellent. We had the salmon, mahi-mahi and also stuffed, Rainbow Trout. The service time was slow but this was probably attributed to the booked solid reservations.

We also had oysters on the half shell. I have never seen a menu before that included eight different kinds of oysters from different locales. They were fresh and delicious.

This restaurant is very popular and rightfully so. As we were exiting, Jon Favreau (The Break-up, Something's Gotta Give, Open Season, "Dinner for Five") was entering. Don't worry, no invasion of privacy occurred. He didn't ask us to sign anything and did not request any pictures to be taken with him.

fried chicken
skirt steak
vegetarian chili relleno
cayenne etouffee
spaghetti & meatballs
memphis bbq baby back ribs
plus lots of other goodies, for an appetizer, try the sliders

Power Play
by Joseph Finder

Here is a fascinating story that takes place about three hundred miles north of Vancouver in British Columbia. It was suppose to be a retreat with little or no connection to the rest of the world. Trouble starts when the corporate big shots are taken hostage by a band of backwoods hunters. A not-so big shot steps up and well................you'll have to read this excellent story to find out.

Joseph Finder paints a very detailed picture with plenty of twists and turns. You'll love it.
Rating: 5 pairs of sunglasses. The coolest.

Requiem for an Assassin
by Barry Eisler

Sure John Rain is an Assassin. But he kills the guys you and I would like to kill. Barry Eisler takes you on a fast paced trip and very detailed trip to lots of exotic locations. John Rain knows his martial arts and as with all of Barry's novels, I finish by going to the mirror and checking for bruises.

Rating: 5 pairs of sunglasses, the coolest.

The Overlook

Another superb Harry Bosch mystery. I love Detective Bosch. He's my kind of cop. Put Michael Connelly at the top of the crime writers list. You will thoroughly enjoy The Overlook.
